Zambezi Zinger
Zambezi Zinger

The Zambezi Zinger was Worlds of Fun's long lasting family roller coaster. Located in the African section, this coaster took riders throughout the woods on a fast paced journey. When it was removed at the end of the 1997 season, Worlds of Fun guests were left without a roller coaster for the family and a piece of history disappeared. The Zambezi Zinger opened in 1973 as one of Worlds of Fun's originally rides and is often remembered as Worlds of Fun's "first" coaster. The ride stood for 25 years at Worlds of Fun, making it the longest standing coaster in the park's history. The Zambezi Zinger was also one of only two Speedracers in operation in 1997. The other is Whizzer at Six Flags Great America.

UNIQUE FEATURES

Besides being a favorite of many Worlds of Fun guests, the Zambezi Zinger had several unique features. Probably the Zinger's most popular feature, was the long, dark tunnel that concluded the ride. Another unique feature of this Speedracer was its lift hill. The lift hill was unique for two reasons. First of all, it was powered by an electric motor; unlike most coasters today that are usually equipped with chain lift hills. Another unique characteristic of the Zinger's lift hill is that it was spiral. The train was pulled up to the top in corkscrew fashion.

Today the Zambezi Zinger, or Montaa Rusa as it's now called, thrills riders at the Parque National de Caf in Bogot, Columbia. It now features a red and blue color scheme with yellow trains. Now occupying the land that the Zinger once stood on is Boomerang.
